BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura Press Release

Today, Yayasan Penggerak Linux Indonesia (YPLI) and BlankOn Development Team proudly announce the release of BlankOn Linux version 7.0 which is given name "Pattimura". As usual, BlankOn Linux features the latest and greatest Linux technologies. BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura supports entertainment softwares which can be run without installing additional multimedia codecs, smooth Internet access for web browsing and instant messaging, also office features. BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura also provides vector and bitmap graphics editors, video editor and digital photo albums.
Rahman Yusri Aftian, the release manager of BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura, said: "BlankOn Pattimura is version of BlankOn which shows progress of our research and development, in this BlankOn Pattimura, we created Blankon Desktop. It shows that Indonesian people have abilities with our national independence spirit which had been dreamed by our National Hero, Pattimura".
BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura uses Bahasa Indonesia as the default UI language. It is hoped that the usage of Bahasa Indonesia will embrace the usage of the language in computer world. BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura also preserves Indonesian culture by adding supports to Indonesian traditional scripts. In this version, it supports two new scripts, they are Rejang and Java besides Lontara', Batak Toba, Bali, and Sunda.
"I have been using BlankOn since Nanggar release until now with Pattimura. Despite of my student mates who still stubborn use proprietary software, I drastically switched to use BlankOn in my activities as a computer science student. The result? There is no problem. And I can argue that BlankOn can answer my needs in my study." said Fitra Aditya, one of BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura developer who originally came from Pamekasan Madura and lives in Bogor.
BlankOn 7.0 Pattimura is also developed with purpose as training media for local developer with online colaboration and open source software development product. The production was totally made online using website, mailing lists, and IRC channel.
